Seniors Captain

SENIORS CAPTAIN

In August 2023, my wife and I moved from our native West Yorkshire to Long Bennington in Lincolnshire, and one of my first tasks was to find a new Golf Club. Having played at Belton Woods previously on an overnight society event, I made some initial enquiries, and was directed to the then Seniors Captain Andy Wood, who gave me a great welcome. I discovered the arrangements of organised golf on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings was a perfect fit for me, so I took the plunge and signed up, and haven’t looked back since. I was surprised but pleased to be asked to be Vice Captain for 2025, and have now just commenced my year as Seniors Captain for 2026.

The Seniors section at Belton Woods is first and foremost about social golf and enjoyment, and the company and sense of camaraderie is excellent. We have Medal and Stableford qualifying competitions each month, along with other named comps throughout the year, coupled with a programme of matches against other clubs in the area (both home and away) that runs through the spring and summer. However, the majority of our golf is on a social “roll-up” basis, with a draw for playing partners, so any new members soon get to know the rest of the Seniors crowd!!

The section has its own website (Belton Woods Seniors) which provides lots of additional information about our events and activities.

If you are interested in joining us in the Seniors section, then please either ask in the Pro Shop, use the Contact Us form on this website, or alternatively, contact me directly via bwseniors@gmail.com – I can assure you of a warm welcome!

Finally, please see the link below for information on my Charity of the Year – the Children’s HyperInsulinism Charity – a condition which affects my granddaughter Amelia. Any funds we raise in 2026 will go to help research and awareness of this rare condition.

About the Hyperinsulinism Charity
The Children’s Hyperinsulinism Charity was founded in February 2016 by a small group of passionate HI families who wanted to ensure that no one facing Congenital Hyperinsulinism (CHI) would feel alone. Today, our charity is led by five volunteer trustees, all HI family members, who bring lived experience, compassion, and a deep commitment to supporting others on their Hyperinsulinism journey.

Everything we do from research and advocacy to education and events is patient-led and co-created with families. Our work is shaped by the real experiences, questions, and needs of the CHI community, ensuring that support is always relevant, responsive, and rooted in lived experience.

Our mottos reflect this mission:

Courage, Hope and Inspiration – the qualities we see in individuals with Hyperinsulinism, our CHI Superheroes.
HI Families for HI Families – our charity is run by families, for families, ensuring that the family voice is heard and every journey supported.
